This new publication explores everyday life during one of the most fascinating, and most studied, eras in our nation's history. Written at Grade Level Four, Colonial America and the Revolutionary War investigates the ethnic, cultural, social, and political backgrounds of Colonial Americans. The book will provide information on the colonists themselves, with special focus on the life of children, including:

Folkways of the Colonists

We'll explore where the different immigrant groups came from, and where they settled; family life; what they ate; what they wore; their legends, stories, and songs; games and sports; and religious, community, and school life. We'll discuss the similarities and differencs among the groups, and how life changed over the years from the first settlements to the established cities, towns, and counties that would eventually become the 13 colonies, and the United States of America. We'll also include the everyday lives of two often overlooked groups of people, Native American tribes and African-American slaves, exploring what were their lives like, and especially, how those liveswere changed by the colonists.

The Revolutionary War

Next, we'll explore the political and social background of the American Revolution. We'll discuss the important historical events that led up to the war, the most important battles, and include key documents, such as the Declaration of Independence. We'll feature biographical profiles of the major figures of the Revolution. Go to our Who's Included page to see a listing of the people profiled.

A special feature will be a discussion of the symbols of the Revolutionary War era. We'll explore the origins and meanings behind such symbols as the first American Flag, Yankee Doodle, the Liberty Bell, the American Eagle, and other images associated with the era.

Illustrations

The book will be heavily illustrated with pictures and paintings of the era, as well as maps and graphs of information.
